Pennine Breast Service orders three mammography chairs from Rothband

Pictured following the delivery of a Mammography 2021 chair from Vela Medical to the Pennine Breast Service at St Luke’s Hospital, Bradford, are senior assistant practitioner Allison Helm, breast service manager Simon Peers and Rothband territory sales manager Tori Jones. The service has ordered three chairs with two going to the mobile units to assist with disabled clinics.

Peers said: “The new chair will allow us to safely complete mammogram examinations of all clients with limited mobility. With musculoskeletal issues being very common in the workforce, the easy motorised movement of the chair will ergonomically protect staff and ensure they work while maintaining correct posture.”

Hygiene Benefits

VELA medical chairs are designed to meet the stringent hygiene and disinfecting requirements in the healthcare sector

  • For optimal hygiene, chairs have easy-to-clean surfaces without recesses where dirt might gather, including the underside of the chair

  • All backrests are supplied with edge bands to prevent dirt collecting in the joints

  • All parts can withstand disinfection, for example, with alcohol or chlorine at the recommended concentration and mixing ratios

  • Light-coloured surfaces make it easy to spot marks when cleaning

We just all love the chair here at the department. It is so easy to manoeuvre and really helps us overcome the huge patient flow of many different patients

Vickie Sanderson; Specialist Radiographer & Lead Mammographer

“Patients prefer this ‘new’ way of screening too. Previously, they had to stand up or use the wheelchair if they couldn’t remain completely still. The wheelchair would be a last resort because patients, disabled or otherwise, don’t like the stigma and clinical aspect of a wheelchair.

Lead Mammographer, Leanne Calderwood - Nottingham City

I find the chair very user-friendly, easy to manoeuvre, and comfortable for ladies who cannot stand. In addition, we have found that the VELA Mammography Chair has helped improve patient flow with these patients.
