The Original Lead Apron company
Rothband is the UK's leading manufacturer of radiation protection with over 100 years of experience in the sector.
From our factory in Lancashire, we passionately make the garments by hand and can claim some of the lightest, and most conformable garments available.
TABARD APRONS
The tabard design is a simple to wear option that is typically open at the sides. They are well suited to environments where an apron is only required for relatively short periods of time.
LOOKING FOR LIGHTWEIGHT APRONS ?
WE HAVE THE LIGHTEST MATERIALS ON THE MARKET THAT PASS THE 61331-1:2014 BBG* STANDARD.
TOP AND KILT DESIGNS
Two piece designs offer a greater degree of flexibility. We have a selection of tops and kilt that create a comfortable combination that splits the weight between your shoulders and hips. This design is popular in interventional environments when aprons are worn for longer periods.
GLASSES
The International Commission on Radiation Protection (ICRP) in 2011 recommended the lowering of the annual eye lens dose limit from 150 mSv/year to 20 mSv/year in order to reduce the risk of X-ray-induced lens opacity in medical staff.

SIZING GUIDE
See our sizing guide to help get you the most comfortable fit, and more importantly, the guaranteed area protection that you require.
This quick video will help you get the most accurate measurements for your apron. However, if you want to be extra-certain on the size and length required, get in touch with us and we'll arrange one of our area Sales Reps to measure you correctly.
CORE MATERIALS
LIGHTWEIGHT LEAD
Lightweight lead is better suited to environments when the apron will be worn for shorter periods as whilst it is a much cheaper option it is also significantly heavier than our edge bilayer, lead free option.
As the Lightweight lead is tested up to 150 Kv it makes this material more suitable for high KV procedures.
If you are working in a high KV environment, contact us about our edge bilayer Lead option which offers a weight saving whilst maintaining the high Kv protection.
ULTRA LIGHTWEIGHT, EDGE BILAYER LEAD FREE
Our ultralight Edge Bilayer - Lead Free solution, By layering Antimony with Bismuth it provides a superior level of protection that conforms to the highest standards at the lowest weights.
- This solution, is better suited to environments when the apron will be worn for longer periods as whilst it is a much more expensive option it is also significantly lighter than our lightweight lead option
- In order to keep the weight low, our Bilayer material is tested to 110Kv, which helps us reduce the weight and is suitable for most interventional work when the aprons may be worn for longer periods.
- If you are working in a high KV environment, contact us about our edge bilayer Low Lead option which offers a weight saving whilst maintaining the high Kv protection.
MEETING THE HIGHEST STANDARDS AT THE LIGHTEST WEIGHTS
Testing in accordance with BS EN 61331-1:2014 BBG* using inverse broad beam geometry. Performed by the National Physics Laboratory.
